---NEW--- The Possibility of Christmas “For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37) Now days, they make movies about whether modern Christmas celebrations and traditions are pagan or birthed from the knowledge of Christ. Like most things in history and its usage in modern life, I am sure there is a mixture. I for one do not like that people look with happiness at an evergreen tree with lights and decorations, and have a disdain in their hearts for the real Christmas tree that Peter wrote about. The Bible says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on THE TREE, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24; emphasis mine). That is the only tree that causes my eyes to well with water as I think on its beauty. I know there are people who make it a point to say we do not know for sure when Christ was born, and the date December 25th has its roots in pagan worship. These are major concerns. It is also of great concern the fact that the time the church has chosen to worship and adore the advent of the greatest Christmas gift, Christ Himself, is also the time that corporations make their money for the year and have a “black Friday” sale. I feel that is an apt title for such a concept. Nevertheless, this is contemporary life. This is also when we as a people choose to recognize the birth of Christ, and the church must use every opportunity to put the focus on Christ instead of the madhouse of a modern society. With this devotion, it is hoped that you see the energetic work of God and His capabilities to do the impossibilities in His miracle working power. Our verse of study was a statement said to Mary by the angel Gabriel. He was sent to announce to Mary the plan of God for the salvation of all of humanity through the birth of her Son, and the birth of a son by her cousin Elisabeth. These would be two miracle births, in that, Mary was a virgin, and Elisabeth was in her old age and past the age of having a child. This statement was to reassure Mary that what we, as humans, see as impossible circumstances are nothing to the power and plan of the LORD God Almighty. Notice first and foremost this has to be done “with God.” With God all impossibilities are possible, but without God nothing of any worth is possible. There is only one way to be “with God,” and that is through Jesus! Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). It is through your relationship with Christ that you are with God. Just so someone who is trapped in this muddy quicksand of modern theological thought doesn’t get it wrong; it should be noted that your relation to God is “not” something you just say in prayer and tell people that you believe in Christ. This relation to Christ is based on your total life. Jesus said, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). Again, Jesus also said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Therefore, if you are really “with God,” and in the position to receive the anointing where the impossible can be possible, and Jesus is really your LORD and your love, you will not only say and believe in Jesus, you will do what is commanded in the Holy Bible. Notice there is a hope for the future in this verse. The verse states, “For with God nothing SHALL BE impossible” (emphasis mine). I have always seen the Christian life as a future hope, and not only that, I have adopted a “now what philosophy” to whatever happens to me in this life with Christ. What I mean by a “now what philosophy” is a way of looking at life no matter what has happened to me either good or bad, I look at the situation my life is in and I think, “Now what am I going to do.” Once that question is made clear the answer comes, and the answer is “trust God to make the impossible possible.” If you have good times in your life, use that way of looking at it as a way to keep going for God instead of slacking up and backsliding. You know, in the ministry the LORD has allowed me to work in over the last twelve years, I have seen more people backslide and turn their backs on God when they are having good time rather than when they are having bad times. One must see that we never have good times all the time. In fact, the LORD Jesus promised us, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Here, we see we are promised tribulation while we live for God in this fallen world. Even so, we have to realize there is a purpose for the tribulation we must endure. The Bible says, “For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us” (2 Corinthians 1:8-10). We are shown, in this verse, that terrible times are used to teach us that “we should not trust in ourselves, but in God.” There were many hard times surrounding the birth of Jesus. Mary would have to trust that Joseph would not put her away. Joseph and Mary would have to trust God that He would protect them when Herod sought the baby’s life. Through all of those circumstances, they learned to trust the fact that with God nothing shall be impossible. I do not know what you are facing, but I do know that if you trust the LORD God of the Holy Bible, you trust the God that parted the Red Sea. You trust the God that was in the fire with the three Hebrew children, and you trust the LORD that died but rose again! I want you to see that if you are in right relation with the LORD Jesus by living the way He wants you to live, nothing shall be impossible to you to carry out God’s plan for your Life, because you see, “…with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37). If you are not living right with God at this moment, the LORD God can do the impossible and give you the strength to turn from that sin and turn your total life over to Him. All you have to do is look to Him in trust. If you wish to speak with me about these matters or need some one to pray with do not hesitate to contact me. May God bless you with the realization this Christmas that with God all things are possible. Chris Fisher, Pastor The Church of the New Beginning 12/14/14
