-Concept Paper- OUTSTANDING SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2014 Theme: Enacting Scholars’ Magnanimity through Exemplary Leadership and Outstanding Service *RATIONALE* The Kapatiran ng Talino at Galing (KATAGA) PUP Honors’ Society, the premier academic organization of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, has strived to continuously nurture the innate academic proficiency, creativity, talents, and interest of the students helping them to become more responsive and efficient citizens of the country. Through the decades, the organization has undergone voyage of adversities and tribulations yet, it is affixed to its commitments and still flamboyant to its principles and aspirations. The organization will be conducting the most awaited search in this University, the Outstanding Scholar of Year Awards (OSYA). The activity envisions recognizing and enhancing the students’ great competence and vigor with respect not only to their academic endeavors but also to their passion for leadership and social awareness. It also enables them to learn the parameters and roles of an exemplary student and lastly, to inspire them to be the future leaders and foundations of this country. *PROJECT DESCRIPTION* In line with the aim of the organization in showcasing honor and excellence to the PUP studentry, Outstanding Scholar of Year Awards (OSYA), as an awards program, honors the university’s most notable students, who best epitomize the values of excellence, leadership and civic-mindedness. In recognizing the best, the program seeks 3rd year and graduating students of PUP who bestowed outstanding performance during their academic periods inside and outside the premises of this University. Aside from that, this program will honor the best student in each area: Academic Excellence, Exemplary Leadership, Outstanding Servitude and Commendable Achievements. The search involves the following processes: -Document evaluation -Leadership and Community engagements -Formation Program -Panel interview and; -Awarding rites *OBJECTIVES* The Outstanding Scholar of the Year Awards (OSYA) program aims to recognize the Top University Scholars who not only excel academically, but also dedicate themselves as exceptional leaders and community servants in order to make a difference in their respective circles. With this in hand, the activity has the following specific objectives: To search and recognize the most qualified outstanding scholars To develop their leadership skills To inculcate socio-civic works and learn the value of volunteerism To recognize the most Academically-excelled student To recognize the Exceptional Student Leader To recognize the Youth with Outstanding Service To recognize the Top Achiever of this University To award the most outstanding scholar from 3rd year class and graduating class *SEARCH RULES AND PROCEDURES* I. Who May Join A duly recognized scholar of any type and a bona fide student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Nominees may come from any course/program that is duly recognize and accredited by the University Administration or the Dean of the Student Affairs. A Department may submit a maximum of two (2) nominees from different course. II. Minimum Qualification Requirements A Filipino citizen of excellent moral character, and without any record of criminal conviction or unfavorable disciplinary case in school. A bona fide 3rd year and graduating student for the current academic year (A.Y. 2013-2014), from a first baccalaureate degree. An outstanding student in academic and co- and extra-curricular activities with no failing grades during his/her entire study in college. *VENUE* The entire search will be conducted at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila, except for the outreach activity. *TARGET SCHEDULE* Submission of the Accomplished Documents- Announcement of Qualified Outstanding Scholars- Orientation Proper- Leadership and Community Engagement- Formation Program Panel Interview- Awarding Ceremony- *OTHER MATTERS* A nominated student should accomplish the form appropriately and should include only true claims The entire search rules will be elaborated during the orientation proper of the qualified scholars.
