04 Nov 2013 - STORM WARNING WEST COAST VANCOUVER ISLAND, NORTH VANCOUVER ISLAND. A frontal system associated with 986 mb low in the Gulf of Alaska and a 1008 mb warm sector will move through the north coast today, drift southward through Vancouver Island overnight and then weaken as it moves inland on Tuesday. Ahead of the front SE Gale to Storm Force winds with steady precipitation will dominate the north and central coasts, west and north Vancouver Island. A westerly flow will follow the trailing cold front. - Dixon Entrance, Haida Gwaii, Hecate Strait, Queen Charlotte Sound winds SE Gale Force to 35 knots (65 kmh) rising to SE Storm Force to 50 knots (96 kmh) this morning easing to strong SW this afternoon. - West coast Vancouver Island winds rising to SE Storm Force to 50 knots (96 kmh) by noon, easing to SE Gale Force to 35 knots (65 kmh) tonight, becoming moderate westerly overnight. - Queen Charlotte Strait winds rising to SE Gale Force to 40 knots (74 kmh) by noon easing to strong SE overnight and light to moderate by Tuesday morning. - Johnstone Strait winds rising steadily to strong SE by noon reaching SE Gale Force to 35 knots (65 kmh) tonight at the Broughton entrance. - Georgia Strait winds will rise to strong SE in the northern reach by noon and diminish overnight. - Juan de Fuca Strait weak easterly flow will continue until the frontal system moves inland and then a moderate westerly onshore flow will develop Tuesday afternoon. Southern Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands and the lower mainland can expect clearing to give way to cloudy conditions with showers developing overnight. Rain will move through the Fraser Valley tonight and periods of snow can be expected in the mountain passes.
