1,200-Year-Old Tomb Found A tomb from a South American civilization that predated the Incas has been found north of Lima, Peru, archaeologists revealed at a press conference Friday. The 1,200-year-old Wari tomb, believed to be royal, was found buried deep in the ground, which is likely what kept it safe from grave robbers. Archaeologists said the tomb is "like a pantheon," with rows of mostly female human remains buried in a seated position and dressed in textiles and precious metals. Six skeletons were laid out flat and were possibly human sacrifices. The tomb also contained gold and silver jewelry, alabaster cups, and weaving tools made of gold.
