10 injured in police-Shibir clash 2013-07-15 12:31:23.0 Ghulam Azam verdict sparks violence in Sylhet The clash took place in the city’s Mendibagh area at 1:30pm Monday. They exploded at least 20 crude bombs and vandalised a car. Kotwali Station OC Nasir Uddin Mohammad said, Jamaat-Shibir supporters also lit a bonfire of car tyre to protest the verdict. When police tried to disband them the activists hurled brickbats and that led to the clash. Police fired 55 rounds of rubber bullets and lobbed five rounds of sound grenade to bring the situation under control, said OC Nasir. One Shibir activist was arrested from the spot. President of metropolitan Chhatra Shibir Abdul Wadud Tipu said 10 persons were injured. Three Shibir activists were hit by the buckshot fired by the police. Jamaat guru Ghulam Azam was found guilty by the war crimes tribunal of all the five categories of crime -- conspiracy, planning, incitement, complicity (abetment) and murder-- on Monday.
