10 years ago today, October 13, 2004, the Iowa National Guard had sendoff ceremonies for the 224th Engineer Battalion in Fairfield, Burlington, Ottumwa, Mount Pleasant, and Keokuk. And, as I recall, the day 10 years ago was cold and rainy - just like today. At the time of our sendoff, we had not yet been notified of our assignment, and only knew that we would be serving under the XVIII Corps (Airborne). Definitely a day none of us will ever forget. Heres to all of you Engineers out there - AND our families- some still serving, some representing the 224th as Veterans in the community, and those who are no longer with us! We made a difference - all of us.
