101 Questions to Ask Before You Get Engaged - Day 60 60. What are your financial responsibilities and goals? How capable are you in budgeting, balancing checkbooks, shopping patterns? How stressful are these things to you? What debts do you have at this time, and have you ever filed for bankruptcy? Answer: Uhg! Hate talking about money. Im just gonna push through this one. - Responsibilities: I have no responsibilities aside from paying my bills on time and keeping a roof over my head. Im not associated with a business, I dont provided for another human being at this time, etc. etc. - Goals: Be debt free within 4 years. This will occur significantly sooner should I pick up a deployment. Id also like to build an emergency fund worth 6 months complete living expenses (basically save what I currently spend a month minus what Im currently saving). - Budgeting, balancing check books, shopping patterns, and stress: I budget, fairly well, but I dont like it. Numbers give me a sour stomach. I shop for food very consistently, and other things very sporadically and often times impulsively, though Im improving in that area. I rarely like shopping for anything to even include things I want. Shopping is equivalent to paying taxes...a necessary evil. But I do delight in buying things for others, so theres that. Maybe its just buying things for myself I dont like. My socks get holes before Ill buy new ones. - Debts and bankruptcy: My current debts include my military Star Card (made big furniture purchases), college (from back in 02), and Conns (also furniture). All together Im looking at around $15,000 to $16,000 in debt. Not bad considering, and hay! I have nice furniture :) To put things in perspective, if I had zero other bills or financial responsibilities and put my entire pay checks towards paying down my debts, I could be debt free in 4 to 5 months. Oh, and Ive never files for bankruptcy. I pray to God that I never will.
