11 things you may or may not know about Charmed 11. It cost US$2 million per episode You get what you pay for - and in this instance, we’re talking a cool US$2 million per Charmed episode. That’s a lot of moolah, but a small price to pay for what now happens to be a classic show! 10. The power of levitation was too costly! For a short while, Phoebe Halliwell had the power of levitation. Pretty cool, huh? Well according to the producers, not cool enough for the kind of price tag it came with! This power was promptly written out of the show because it simply cost too much to film. 9. Piper Halliwell is the only character to appear in every episode It’s official: Holly Marie Combs, who portrays Piper, was the hardest working actor on the show! She is the only cast member to have appeared in every single episode of the series, including the original unaired pilot! 8. Multiple awards later... Charmed has gathered several awards over the years, and its leading ladies have been a hit with audiences all around the world. In 2000, Cult TV Awards placed the show at number 4 in its Top 50 Cult Television Series of the Century... And both in 2007 and 2008, AOL Television ranked each Charmed One within its top 15 of the greatest witches in TV history! 7. Charmed shares its theme song with a movie Think you might have heard the theme song from Charmed somewhere before? Well you probably have! The song ‘How Soon is Now’ is also the theme song from the 1996 movie, The Craft. As for the end of each show, did you ever notice that there are three different end title themes, depending on the tone of the episode?! 6. A demonologist was hired for the series Yes, you read correctly! A demonologist was hired for the series. Scripting of Charmed took place after group brainstorming, discussing the events of the episodes, the emotions and mythology involved… But interestingly, demonologist Robert Masello, an executive story editor for the show, was hired to provide answers on how a demon would behave! 5. Alyssa Milano took Lori Roms part One of the sisters was originally played by actor Lori Rom, but after Lori promptly quit, Alyssa Milano stepped in. This meant a majority of the scenes in the pilot needed to be re-filmed… But we can’t imagine Charmed without Alyssa, so all worked out in the end! 4. Originally called House of Sisters Aaron Spelling initially suggested the title House of Sisters, but after that idea was dropped, the series was titled Charmed – we think that has a much better ring to it, don’t you? 3. Shannen Doherty auditioned for Piper Shannen Doherty, who had previously worked on another one of Aaron Spelling’s shows, Beverly Hills, 90210, actually auditioned for the role of Piper Halliwell but won the role of her sister, Prue. Shannen made a controversial departure from the show after the third season – many speculated trouble behind the scenes, but till this day, the real reasons have never been made public. 2. Breaking records from day one The very first episode of Charmed, ‘Something Wicca This Way Comes’, attracted an enormous 7.7 million viewers in the US alone! This premiere broke the record for the highest rated debut for the Warner Brothers Network... And in January 2006, producer Brad Kern announced that Charmed was in fact the longest running hour-long series with all-female leads. 1. Charmed is produced by the same people behind 7th Heaven!
