12 Rabee ul Awwal 1436 Madrasah in Just 5 Minutes Translation edited by Mufti A.H.Elias-May Allaah protect him In the light of the Quraan and Ahadeeth (1) Islaamic History The people of the orchard Allaah speaks in Surah Qalam about the people of an orchard. There was a pious man from Yemen who lived in a place called Dowraan. He was very wealthy and owned vast orchards. Whenever he harvested his crops, he kept for himself only what was needed and gave the rest away to the poor. However, when he passed away, his sons stopped the practice because they wanted everything for themselves. They therefore decided to harvest the crops long before daybreak so that no poor people could come and beg from them. That night Allaah sent a hot wind, which ignited the crops and caused them all to burn to the ground. The sons proceeded for the harvesting early in the morning, only to discover that everything was lost. They then saw the error of their intentions and repented. (2) Rasulullaah (SAW)’s Miracle Blessings in a single Awqiya of gold Hadhrat Salmaan Faarsi (RA) reports that when Rasulullaah (SAW) gave him an Awqiya of gold to settle his debt, Hadhrat Salmaan (RA) remarked, “How will this little settle so large a debt?” Rasulullaah (SAW) then blew on the gold and said, “Go with it. Allaah will settle your debt.” Hadhrat Salmaan (RA) says that he then took it and continued taking from the gold and weighing the value of a Dinaar each time he paid until he paid out a total of forty Awqiya from it. [Dalaa’il 419] (3) A Fardh It is Fardh (obligatory) even for women to pay zakaah Addressing women, Allaah says in the Quraan, “Establish salaah, pay zakaah and obey Allaah and His Rasool (SAW)”. [Surah Ahzaab, verse 33] If a woman has excess wealth to the value of Nisaab or gold or silver, it will be Fardh (obligatory) for her to pay zakaah on this if it is in her possession for more than a year. (4) A Sunnah The du’aa to be saved from Jahannam The following du’aa should be recited often to be saved from Jahannam: رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا إِنَّهَا سَاءتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا Rabbanasrif anna azaaba jahannama inna azaabaha kaana gharaamaa innahaa saa at mustaqarraw wa muqaamaa TRANSLATION: O our Rabb! Turn the punishment of Jahannam away from us. Verily its punishment is devastating indeed! It (Jahannam) is surely an evil residence and abode [Surah Furqaan, verses 65-66] (5) An Important Act and its Virtue Patience at the time of losing one’s eyesight Rasulullaah (SAW) said that when Allaah tests a person with the two most beloved things he has (his eyes) and he exercises patience, Allaah will reward him with Jannah. [Bukhaari 5653, from Hadhrat Anas (RA)] (6) A Sin The person who leaves Islaam is destined for Jahannam Allaah says in the Quraan, “Verily those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe, then disbelieve and thereafter increase in disbelief, it is not for Allaah to forgive them, nor to guide them to the (straight) path”. [Surah Nisaa, verse 137] (7) This World Those who make this world their objective Allaah says in the Quraan, “So ignore him who turns away from Our advice and who desires only the life of this world. This (their objectives in this world) is the extent of their knowledge (They are concerned only about this world and have no concern for the Aakhirah). (It is therefore futile to persistently preach to them for) Verily your Rabb knows best about the person who deviated from His path and He knows best about him who is rightly guided (and He shall punish or reward them accordingly)”. [Surah Najm, verses 29-30] (8) The Aakhirah The lightest punishment to be suffered by the people of Jahannam Rasulullaah (SAW) said that the lightest punishment to be suffered by the people of Jahannam will be a person beneath whose feet two burning embers will be placed, which will cause his brains to boil like a pot. [Bukhaari 6562, from Hadhrat Nu’maan bin Basheer (RA)] (9) Cures from the Quraan and Rasulullaah (SAW) The benefits of Zamzam Rasulullaah (SAW) stated that the water of Zamzam serves as both food as well as a cure for diseases. [Bayhaqi 3973, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas (RA)] (10) Advice from Rasulullaah (SAW) Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Spend your wealth and never hoard it, otherwise Allaah will hoard from you.
