2. President Sirleaf Extols Firestone Workers President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has praised the workers of the Firestone Plantation Company for the signing of the Collective Bargaining agreement with the Management of Firestone to improve workers wages and living condition. The President indicated that this will pave the way for constructive engagement for others to follow. The ceremony took place in the Cabinet room of the Executive Mansion on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 @ 10am. The Agreement will set an example for some other companies workers to be treated properly and taken into account their dignity avoiding of governmental influence, adding that this has further strengthen the working relationship between the workers and management. The President also prayed that a lesson will be drawn from the Firestone Workers’ agreement where people who are employed in private sector will resolve their differences through a proper channel. She wants Liberian workers to put aside oppositions to company’s operation and use dialogue to address their plights. Meanwhile, the head of Firestone Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia, Mr. Austin S. Natee thanked President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her intervention to improve the working condition of the workers. He said, the new agreement with Firestone Management will improve their wages from US$4.00 to US$7.00 per day apart from their bonuses.
