2014 VITAMIN DRIVE If you are looking for something to warm your heart. Do you remember your 9th birthday? I am sure it was filled with cake, ice cream, and full of receiving gifts from friends and family. That’s what birthdays are all about, or so we have thought. Last weekend on Friday June 20th a young athlete by the name of Kennedy Bryan from the Topeka Havoc fastpitch team decided to do something different; something that would touch the hearts of everyone at MSP and beyond. The 9-year-old girl had expressed that for her birthday she wanted to receive money to donate to a charity of her choice. This past weekend MSP had partnered with OneLIFE, an organization that was established through the Westside Family Church out of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. This organization does amazing things for orphans and the most vulnerable children in our global community. These children every day face extreme poverty, homelessness, exploitation, HIV/AIDS, and so many other things that many of us will never experience in an entire lifetime. OneLIFE had contacted MSP and shared that they were in need of vitamins to help their sponsored children in South Africa. Malnutrition is extremely high and the vitamins help the children receive a healthy balance of nutrients. MSP shared this information with its teams in the hopes that actions could be taken to help. The Topeka Havoc was one of the teams on the other end of that request. When Kennedy heard about that vitamin drive she had no hesitation in choosing this as the charity that she would put her 9th birthday money towards. Kennedy spent multiple days’ couponing to maximize the amount of vitamins that she could provide for the children. Kennedy, making a tremendous donation herself, her team also banned together to join the cause. Together the team collected over 6,000 vitamins. Here at MSP we truly believe that it takes a special kind of person to think of others before themselves, and especially at such a young age. We could not be more proud of her, her team, and all of the athletes that donated this weekend. We are looking forward to providing our collection of vitamins to OneLIFE so we can begin to make a difference in our world one child at a time.
