2014 WORLD CUP: WHICH WAY NIGERIA...? Debuting on this - TopicsExpress

2014 WORLD CUP: WHICH WAY NIGERIA...? Debuting on this medium, I pondered from my least preferred cool-off spot around the more serene VI enclave absentmindedly sipping on a frosted glass of my favourite brew while taking a sneaked peek into the 2014 World Cup draws; and what it portends for the average resilient Naija fan, who believes that Stephen Keshi (since winning the 2013 Afcon Tournament) is the much awaited messiah, howbeit in his anointed green and white tracksuit as opposed to the pristine white robe of the saints, vanquishing the opponents with the famed ‘Blazing Sword’ currently on loan from Voltron’s inter-galactic universe (I daresay...I have pictured him several times bellowing at Sunday Mba from his celestial throne while his famed assistant Dan ‘d muscled bull’ Amokachi peeped into his ‘crystal ball of experience’ for technical guidance. A patriot i am, yet I can’t help but wonder what our beloved ‘Holy Victor Moses’ is pondering right now as he wipes off the dust from his palatial bench at Anfield (as i did, ‘I might add‘ on arrival at this almost deserted joint). He might not exactly be ‘walking alone’ as that would be an anomaly in the Liverpoolian stratosphere, but i definitely see him sitting alone...sitting alone with his thoughts; perhaps, another game gone and he is once again rooted to the bench. I might not be a soothsayer (who needs a soothsayer to predict the future of...say; ‘David Moyes and the glaring possibility of a Trophy-less Manchester United in 2014?’) to guess what you are thinking about right now. YES...i guessed right! We are in the same group as Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran...HMMMM While we are favourites to go through to the second round alongside Argentina, but the current ‘bench warming’ status of our best players in their clubs doesn’t exactly inspire confidence (did i hear you whisper... ‘Vincent Enyeama’?). Hmmm... I pondered; while ordering a refill as the humid weather continued to drain the liquid content off my frosted glass. i cast my mind back to the world cup draw and closed in on the groups and the array of proud knights currently on display: GROUP A GROUP B GROUP C GROUP D BRAZIL: NEYMAR AUSTRIALIA: TIM CAHILL COLOMBIA: RADAMEL FALCAO COSTA RICA: BRYAN RUIZ CAMEROON: ETO’O CHILE: ALEXIS SAMCHEZ GREECE: GIORGOS KARAGOUNIS ENGLAND: WAYNE ROONEY CROATIA: DARIJO SRNA NETHERLANDS: ARJEN ROBBEN IVORY COAST: DIDIER DROGBA ITALY: MARIO BALOTELLI MEXICO: JAVIER HENANDEZ SPAIN: ANDRES INIESTA JAPAN: ENDO YASUHITO URUGUAY: EDISON CAVANI GROUP E GROUP F GROUP G GROUP H ECUADOR: ANTONIO VALENCIA ARGENTINA: LIONEL MESSI GERMANY: MESUT OZIL ALGERIA: SAPHIR SLITI TAIDER FRANCE: FRANCK RIBERY BORNIA & HERZEGOVINA: MIRALEM PJANIC GHANA: ASAMOAH GYAN BELGIUM: VINCENT KOMPANY HONDURAS: ROGER ESPINOZA IRAN: JAVAD NEKOUNAM PORTUGAL: CRISTIANO RONALDO REP. OF KOREA: SUNG YONG KI SWITZERLAND: GOKHAN INLER, NIGERIA:JOHN OBI MIKEL USA: CLINT DEMPSEY RUSSIA: ALAN DZAGOEV And then as I absorbed the realities, i let out an ear-piercing scream; which way Nigeria...? NOTE: These are personal thought with humorous infusions to help us broaden our minds about impending realities at the Brazilian mundia. Cheers. Your comments will be appreciated.
