3 x 1880s US Cavalry troopers (Ive painted the middle one as a corporal - yellow trouser stripes not very visible from this angle). I was drawn to the 1880s for the later Apache wars, and the big changes the issue clothing and equipment had undergone since the 1870s: the surplus Civil War period boots had finally been replaced by the higher ones, officially issued blue shirts had arrived along with the 1880 gauntlets (the first to be centrally issued rather than privately purchased) and the tan (sandy coloured) campaign hat. Anson Mills pattern and other looped cartridge belts had replaced improvised ones and the half-flapped holster and 1880 hunting knife were becoming established items. All in all, very Russell, Remington and Schreyvogel and apparently pretty much what 20th century Hollywood based the appearance of most of its post (and sometimes actual) Civil War troopers on.
