#30/30crew 004 Prompt: The truth of a lie I was never one to care About what people thought about me You dont live in my skin Have never had to hear The laughter that comes from individuals When they crack jokes about what your mother looks like What she sounds like And what she does for a living My friend would always Walk 3 minutes behind his mother She was 59 very thin Hunched over the only thing keeping her erect Was the black cane that would stay attached to the palm of her hand. But his so called friends would tell him how his mother is a crack head How she a bumb because she would go pack bags at the local keyfood When they would ask me what my mother did for a living I would always tell them My mother worked downtown for a lawyer Because anything south of 103 street was downtown Told them my mother would wake up early to catch the train and come home before the court closes thats why they always see her at around 5 - 6 pm I allowed them to come up with their own conclusion Im sure they would question how if my mother worked for a lawyer why we lived in the projects They never asked much more than that when it came to my mother. It was easier to stretch the truth My mother did work for a lawyer But she wasnt on the 4th floor file room with the rest of the legal aides She wasnt doing short hand on the next case There wasnt a back to the scene of the crime day for her she didnt review her bosses notes before the day of trail My mother was housekeeper To ashamed to let people know My mother cleaned another womens house for a living That she was too busy helping raise the Lawyers children that it appeared she would neglect raising her own. It was much easier allowing them to believe that my mother worked for a lawyer Than my mother being a housekeeper I respectfully asked her one day Is there dignity in cleaning toilets ? How can you be proud of making creases ? Of washing dishes, mopping floors? Of being someones on call? Of selling yourself short? She laughs at me. She understands my frustration and says Lo tienes que entender es que No me importa lo que piensen de mi El respeto viene en lo que hago no en lo que soy. Te qustaria Si no pudiera darles a ustedes lo mejor El esfuerso no es limitado al trabajo que uno hace Cada pantalon que aplancho Son menos pisos que ustedes tendran que limpiar Por cada pantalon que aplancho Se que es un dia menos de probesa para ustedes She continues with her lessons on pride and hard work Give me a kiss and a big hug and says Look at this as practice so when you buy it for me I already know where everything is. My mother is a retired Housekeeper I damn good one. #30/30crew #NaPoMo
