5 Virtues of the Day of Arafah 1. Your sins for two years will be forgiven if you fast this day; the previous year and the upcoming year. (Sahih Muslim, 1162) -Some scholars hold the opinion that this refers to minor sins only. Other scholars hold the opinion that it includes major sins because of the hadeeth in #2. 2. This is the day many people are freed from the Hellfire. “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of ‘Arafah. (Sahih Muslim) 3. Allah swore an oath by this day. “By the witnessing day [Friday] and by the witnessed day [the Day of ‘Arafaah].” [al-Burooj 85:3]. The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) said: “The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witnessed day is the Day of ‘Arafah, and the witnessing day is Friday.” (Tirmidhi; saheeh) 4. It is the day on which religion was perfected. “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3] Umar said: “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafah on a Friday.” 5. The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the most beloved days to Allah (swt), and the most beloved of those ten days is the Day of Arafah. If youre alive on the greatest day of the year, you should take advantage of every minute of that day by increasing your good deeds, reciting more Quran, donating in charity, etc. Make an action plan from now and put it in your task/to-do list. By Allah, if youre able to fast on the Day of Arafah and you dont fast, youre missing out on a massive reward that cannot be replaced by any other day of the year. Encourage your family and friends and set a strong, pure intention to fast and increase in good deeds and frequent duaa. The Day of Arafah is Friday, October 3rd. The Islamic day begins at maghrib time on October 2nd, so increase in qiyaam and tahajjud as well. I ask Allah to grant us the ability to do good and protect us from laziness and misguidance. #Arafah
