50 freaking years. Wow. What are the odds that another group of misfits and freaks gets together and a whole kinda alter civilization is created. My guess is zero and never again. I am still thoroughly blown away to have been a tiny part of it all. Seriously the dead would have been just another great rock band if it wasnt for all the other folks that were as much of the band as the boys Like: Hunter, Barlow, alembic, scully, ramrod, Bill Graham, Meyers lab, owsley, Cassidy, the pranksters, the haight, the U.S. government, sandoz labs, the cia with mk ultra, the tapers, the bands attitude of allowing all the music to be shared freely, the boys willing to play a hundred shows a year forever, and all the folks that kept showing up all the time. It was just sheer magic! Absolutely pure beauty
