7019 vacancies in Health FW department: Jammu, July 4: Despite severe shortage of medicos plaguing health department in Jammu and Kashmir, around 400 posts of doctors, including specialists, are awaiting clearance with the J&K Public Service Commission over the last more than three years. Official sources said that various posts including Medical Officers, B Grade Specialists, Lecturers, Dental Surgeons, were referred to the Public Service Commission from time to time for selection by Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department. “However, the posts remained vacant as the PSC has not been able to complete the selection process or even in some cases advertise posts for various reasons,” sources said, adding, “In most of the cases the PSC has sent back the requisition to the department with queries.” These posts include 26 Consultant Pediatrics, 31 Consultant Surgery, 36 Consultant Gynecology, 7 Consultant Radiology, 5 Consultant Psychiatry, 33 Consultant Anesthesiology and 31 Consultant Medicine. “Some of the posts are unfulfilled with the PSC for want of clarification for the last more than three years”, an official in the PSC said. “Over two dozen posts of specialists including Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Traumatology, Medical Geriatrics and Medical Oncology were referred to the PSC in 2011. However, the Commission sent back the requisition seeking some clarification. Till now the Health department has not responded.” As per official figures, the Health and Medical Education department in Jammu and Kashmir has 7019 vacancies out of which 821 are Gazetted, 2523 non-Gazetted and 884 class-IV in direct quota.
