9 yr old bicycle is actually much more reliable than a 9+yr old, 280 000km car. For the past week, this is what happened to one of our vehicles.(Our other MPV vehicle is even more troublesome) 1. Car jerky while idling, didnt bother too much, still moves. 2. Suddenly car engine overheats, a serious problem, we checked and found that the radiator is rusty/clogged, needs replacement. If not replaced, engine will overheat, coolant will boil and pressure builds up, may explode. 3. Problem fixed, drove for 1 day. One of the coolant pipes leaks, replaced the pipe, we checked to make sure nothing else is leaky. 4. Car starts to become very jerky, decided to replace the spark plug as the plugs is due for replacement. While replacing the spark plug, the spark plug wires + starter coil wires snapped(rubber too old). Wires/coils replaced. 5. We also noticed the rubber seal on the engine is too old and some engine oil is getting into places it should not be in, engine seal replaced. 6. Ok after many part replacement within a short span of few days, everything works like a charm now. Happy. Idling rpm is perfect, engine is running like it should. 7. Next day, could not start the engine. Battery is dead, it died much faster than the earlier battery of the same make. Monday is our off day, battery is currently being charged using our scooter charger so that it can make a final trip to get the battery replaced. 8. Summary, your will never know what is going to break down for an old car but bicycles are easy, a little grease is enough to go a long way.
