A CRITICAL SEARCH FOR A MAN WITH A PERFECT HEART: THE EMERGING GOVERNOR IN AKWA IBOM STATE IN 2015. Great Minds Initiative (GMI), an ethical and conscience group with political inclination in Nigeria have zoomed its political search lights into all the political camps and organizations across the Senatorial Districts in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, in earnest search for a Man with a Perfect Heart and our observations from these search have been exciting and interesting. It reveals peoples emptiness, rudderlessness, and purposelessness in their aspirations to Public offices. The search for a Man with a Perfect Heart as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State has puzzled people for decades, that is because we typically begin at the wrong starting point ourselves; We asked self-centred questions like, who do I want to be, what will I do with my life, what are my goals, my ambitions, my dreams for my future? Great Minds Initiative (GMI) has come to realized that focusing on ourselves alone will never reveal our life’s purpose. We believe in the Biblical injunction that “it is God who directs the lives of his creatures”, everyone’s life is in his power. Have you ever paused to imagine that, you exist only because God will that you exist, that you were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense? Let it be established in your hearts that, it is only through God that you can discover your origin, your identity, your meaning, your purpose, your significance, and your destiny. Every other path leads to a dead end In Akwa Ibom State and elsewhere, it is observed that many people try to use God for their own self-actualization, but is a reversal of nature and is doomed to failure. It is high time our political gladiators and operatives realized that they are made for God and not vice versa, and that life is about letting God use them for his purposes, not them using God for their own selfish purposes Great Minds Initiative (GMI) earnestly prays for and succinctly seeks for a man which God has made his way Perfect, a man with a Perfect Heart, to be the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2015. He must be meek and gentle, learn to love, love justice and a man that hates iniquity in all its forms. We need a man who is not an accident nor crowned by an accident. It is not fate, nor chance, no luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you. It is only God that will fulfill his purpose for you, and for his people. We agree with Rick Warren that God also planned where we will be born and where we will live for his purpose; our race, nationality, and ethnic bigotry are not accident. Most amazing, God decided how you will be born and what you will become and when you would become what. Regardless of the circumstances of your birth or who your parents are, God had a plan in creating you; it doesn’t matter whether your parents were good, bad or indifferent. God knew that those two individuals possessed exactly the right genetic make up to create the custom “you”, he had in mind. They had the DNA God wanted to make you. Are you aspiring for a public office, or one political position or the other? What drives your life or put differently, what inspires your aspiration and ambition? Could it be your godfather(s), could it be your connections (Home front and Abuja front), your wealth (money), the cabal you belong, and pressure by your people to succeed your boss, friend, or former principal or is it a covenant fulfillment? Or better still, is it the thinking that without you, no other person is so qualified for the office you are aspiring for? Think very well, something must drive you. Something must inspire you. Ecclesiastes 4:4 gives a clear picture of this thus, “I observed that the basic motive for success is the driving force of envy and jealousy” Thomas Carlyle captured it all and said, “The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder- a waif, a nothing, a no man.” In view of the above thoughts, You would no doubt agree with me that every one’s life is driven by something. Are you driven by guilt to aspire to be the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, or are you driven by resentment and anger; are you driven by materialism - the desire to acquire? Are you driven by need for approval by your Boss or kinsmen? I may not be competent to recommend the key to success to you, but one key of failure is to try to please everyone. Being controlled by the opinion of others is a guaranteed way to miss God’s purpose for your life. A life guided, controlled and directed by God’s purposes. As Professionals and key players in different fields of human endeavor, we have come under the auspices of Great Minds Initiative (GMI) to form an integrated, organized and an enlightened progressive platform and followership base and provide a solid foundation for governance that will create the emergence of a “servant” with a Perfect Heart and a man with a clear conscience, a man driven by vision, purpose, passion and inspiration. . We have come as a consultative Assembly of responsible Akwa Ibom people to contribute our impeccable human and valued material resources to the making of an excellent components of government and the governed. We have come to give spiritual, moral and professional backup to the emerging government in the state, realizing that, governance essentially means the exercise of economic, political and administrative authority to engage the state’s affairs in all its facets. In exercising these onerous responsibilities therefore, we shall encourage the emerging Governor to introduce mechanisms, processes and institutions through which the people of Akwa Ibom State will articulate their interest, exercise their legal rights, meet their obligations and mediate their differences. We advocate an administration that shall be participatory, transparent and accountable, effective and equitable and will promote the rule of law. We shall encourage the governor to ensure that political, social and economic priorities shall evolve through broad consensus: that the government shall not only strive to continuously protect the poorest, the most vulnerable and the weak, it shall ensure that they are heard and their concerns mainstreamed in the development process of the state. We shall specifically encourage the government to promote public access to information, public participation in the decision making process and access to justice through functional and credible judicial and administrative processes. Etc. Great Minds Initiative shall encourage the governor to produce a Development Plan and Economic Strategy Document, with endorsement of critical stakeholders that will address the short coming, enunciate programmes and projects and guide the development document in the first four years of the administration. This document must address the critical sectorial linkages in the trajectory of our development-the people, the environment and funding/other resources and also establish a medium term fiscal framework to financing our development projects and development management of the state. A man or woman with this attributes and a man that can key in to these thinking and perception is a great man with great mind, and G M I shall do all in its powers and reach to promote project and adopt such a material as Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2015. From now till May 29, 2015 GMI shall call for Solemn Assembly, Proclaim fast and prayers for the actualization of our dream Governor in 2015.
