A Mothers Day Plea!!! On this Mothers Day, I ask all mothers in SVG and its Diaspora and all those reading this post to call on the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as they lead on seeking reparatory justice from Europe for people of African descent to provide relief for all those Vincentians who undergo persistent psychological trauma either at their hands directly or their neglect which is wanton in some cases. At the risk of omitting any of those who suffer in this way and for whom we demand liberation and reparation, here are the ones I recollect and leave room for additions: Leon Bigger Bigs’ Samuel and Marcus DeFreitas who, because of sheer personal and political spite, they have had to suffer the indignity of losing their multimillion dollar businesses The three teachers’ who, by virtue of an “inspirational contract” signed by the Prime Minister, had been forced to choose between losing their jobs or continue in their quest to participate in parliamentary elections, while others of the ruling party faced no such dilemma The farmers who have been stripped of their economic independence all because of wanton neglect in managing the agriculture industry, particularly deadly plant diseases The families of those who have lost their lives as this government “pursue vagabonds until they are no more” and we remember Codo Thomas, especially at this time The families of those who lost their lives in the December 24 floods at Buccament Bay and for whom there is a need to investigate whether these lives could have been saved. The women who have been indecently assaulted and raped by powerful men at all levels and especially those who are further victims of societal ridicule for speaking out
