A New and Expanded Role for Churches Man was admonished not to - TopicsExpress

A New and Expanded Role for Churches Man was admonished not to covet his neighbors wife! Nothing was said about coveting a neighbors wealth. Throughout recorded history, Gods words and teachings have been used, and even distorted, to teach that it is wrong to want and have wealth and power. The most often cited scripture was Matthew 19:24 that said, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. This scripture is not anti-wealth. The scripture challenges those who do not have it. Therefore, it is wealth inequalities and not wealth itself that the scriptures oppose. In accord with scriptural admonishments, the PowerNomics national plan is about acquiring wealth and power then using it to improve the lives of people who have been long denied the joys of a decent quality of life. This chapter calls for a new and expanded role for those of Black Americas 65,000 churches that choose the PowerNomics vision. Just as established religions played a central role in institutionalizing Black slavery, modern organized religion can be instrumental in carrying out Biblical instructions and correcting the wealth and power inequities between the races. The Black church community is the only Black institution that successfully survived centuries of slavery, Jim Crow semi-slavery and government-directed benign neglect. With that survival record, they are the most qualified institution to bring wealth and prosperity to an impoverished Black race. God must surely have intended for Black people to be wealthy and recognized as a special people. Otherwise, why would He have honored them by making them the first humans, established the Garden of Eden in Africa, and made Africa the most resource rich land mass on earth? Why else would the color Black be the dominant and base of all other colors? Though Black people were put upon and enslaved by all nations, religion and ethnic groups, clearly this was not Gods original intent. The holy scriptures admonish us to aid the impoverished and despised people of the earth. What group of people are more impoverished and despised around the world than Black people? Surely Black people are some of the most religious people on earth. It is on the basis of this special spirituality that we now challenge Black churches to expand their traditional role and to use the fullness of their status and visibility to come to the aid of Black America.
