A Poem The Poet By Graham Robinson © Most Poets know it, but very rarely will they ever show their true ego, they know full well that they have one and that they have an undoubted passion and feeling with true ability and a certain agility with both the written word and the spoken word, otherwise why become a Poet in the first place, they dont set out to lose face... Its not a race or anything, they havent got to paint a picture using brush and palette, write their name on the inside of the frame, or sing a song and be judged whether the song was good or bad. But Artists, Singers, Poets, and Performers are just glad to be able to show their gift, whatever it is to anybody freely, who want to view it, or read it or listen to it, the Poet will pour their hearts and souls out, every time they put pen to paper, or suffer the nerves and fright of reading to a live audience at an open mic night, whilst this is fine the majority of the time, a lot of passionate people suffer quite badly with nerves, sometimes a depression and it is also sadly noted that many Poets and performers suffer from an inner turmoil, an anxiety, which they will then try and foil with their words in the hope of finding the appreciation from their audiences for their work, which they so desire, no higher an accolade can be paid to a Poet, as they do not write a Poem for money or for commercial gain, but have to suffer the slings and arrows and pain again and again...with an unrelenting unceasing fragility of their ego, that can cause stress and self-esteem issues which accompanies their awesome passion...this cuts through their toughened literary veneer...like a hot knife through their poetic pat of butter of poetic thoughts, all the Poet wants is to have their words published, or listened to, or read in bed or at least appreciated, instead of being criticised, which can so affect their heads, some end up simply clutching at poetic threads, or getting the dreaded writers block and cant write a verse or even worse...they just frown and simply have a nervous breakdown.
