A Sydney teenager allegedly bound for Middle Eastern warzones to join jihadist fighters has managed to slip out of the country using his brothers passport. The 19-year-old man from Kellyville boarded a flight to the United Arab Emirates but was arrested when the plane landed and then sent back to Australia where he was met by federal police officers last Saturday morning, News Corp reports. He appeared at Sydneys Central Local Court on Wednesday charged with using an Australian passport not issued to him. He has not been charged with any terrorism-related offences. The teen, whose family is believed to be from Afghanistan, did not apply for bail and remains in custody. He faces court again on October 8. The case highlights the need to better identify and prevent people leaving the country on false documents, a federal government spokesman said. It also follows the breakdown in passport control that allowed convicted terrorist Khaled Sharrouf, 33, to leave Australia on his brothers passport last December to join jihadists in Syria. Up to 150 other Australians are currently fighting on the battlefields of either Syrian or Iraq. 9news.au/world/2014/08/15/03/45/sydney-jihad-teen-leaves-country-on-brother-passport
