A bit of a lengthy discussion, but an important one. The amount of time people spend actually looking at works of art is distressingly low. One doesnt need to be a researcher or statistician to observe how quickly herds of people will whisk by rooms full of beautiful artwork in matters of seconds. Part of the debate circles around the question, should art be explained, to which I would emphatically answer, yes. To love or appreciate anything sincerely is not just to experience it, but to learn from it, to be a scholar, curious and open to insight in a world brimming with ideas, emotions, points of view. Theres no reason for anyone to leave a museum with a feeling of clueless turbulence, appreciating what they saw, without really understanding any of it.This is one of the reasons I agree with the statement that museums could be better at communicating to viewers why in fact is art can be so important. youtube/watch?v=0qP9Cz5IkVI
