A brush fire on Koke`e Road yesterday afternoon about 3.5 miles from Kekaha town burned 5 acres of brush .Firefighters from the Waimea, Hanapepe and Kalaheo stations responded to the 3:30 alarm, along with Air 1, Rescue 3 and a water tanker. The fire was contained and under control by 5 p.m. and fully extinguished by 6:30 p.m. No damages or injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened. Police officers closed the southbound lane of Koke`e Road at the Waimea Canyon Drive junction and the northbound lane of Koke`e Road at the Kaumuali`i Highway junction for approximately two hours. The roadway was reopened when the fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire is not known.
