A few of you have asked for updates on the stomach bug that has allegedly been caused by unwashed vegetables. While nothing has been officially confirmed as yet, Canterbury DHB Medical Officer of Health Alistair Humphrey told TV ONEs Breakfast programme this morning that bagged carrots and lettuces appear to be the origin of the infection, associated with the bacteria Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Get rid of any old bags of carrots or lettuce left in your fridge over the last week or two, Dr Humphrey warned. Until Dr Humphreys findings have been confirmed, the source of the bug is as yet unknown for certain; that being said, its a good idea to wash everything. Its a lot easier than getting a nasty tummy!
