A few years back , i went to the hardware in town, to get flea powder for my dog. they told me they didnt carry it any longer and suggested i use Sevin a garden pesticide. I mean, hey, if it is safe for your garden vegetables, which you eat, it should be safe to sprinkle in my dogs coop to keep fleas down. I brought it home and sprinkled it in her coop on the straw and it took care of the fleas. About a month later i noticed my dogs back legs getting twichy. 2 years later her legs still twitch with spasms. She gets along ok but has lost fine motor control on her back half. Sevin is a pesticide. Pesticides are neurotoxins, which in plain English means that they act on the nervous system of the insect. In insects they scramble nerve impulses causing neurological misfires and ending in paralysis and death. Neurotoxins do the same thing in mammals. Just a question to ponder - It makes my dog twitchy BUT ITS OK TO PUT ON OUR FOOD SOURCES? Probably the thousands of people in India (estimates as high as 16,000 over time) that died in 1984 producing 3 of the ingredients of Sevin ( carbaryl, Methyl isocyanate, and Phosgene) would tell you it isnt !
