A group, Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN), has urged Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, to apologise for the action of some women who participated in an exercise tagged ‘Imo Women Sweep out Jonathan and PDP.’ The sweeping exercise was carried out after President Goodluck Jonathan paid a political visit to Imo State. But, NCSN, in a statement on Wednesday by its President, Udoka Udeogaranya, described the action of the women as shameful and uncultured The group condemned the action in strong terms, and urged Okorocha to tender unreserved apology to the President, for what it termed the “embarrassing conduct of hired women”. According to the group, “Such exercise against a President of a country or father of our nation is not only alien toNdigboculture, but has no place in the tradition and religious faith ofNdigbo, whereby we have been brought up to respect our fathers and mothers, not to mention the father of our nation. “While we believe in the freedom of political association, we must be careful over the type of conduct we import into Igboland, for there is nothing Imo State stands to gain by insulting a sitting President of the nation.” Besides, the group stressed that it believes that “Gov. Okorocha is a true son of Igboland and a genuine Christian by faith and therefore would not have supported such an exercise, but for the avoidance of doubt, we urge him to publicly apologize to Mr. President on behalf of the renegades parading themselves as Imo women. “In the footsteps of former Imo State governor, late Sam Onunaka Mbakwe of opposition party, Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP), who formed alliance with former President Shehu Shagari of National Party of Nigeria (NPN), to attract benefits to Imo State, we encourage Gov. Rochas to form allies with President Goodluck Jonathan as many opposition party governors have done to the benefit of their various states. Posted by PGEJMRA 2015
