A little over twenty years ago, Bobby Scarboro still had his shop - TopicsExpress

A little over twenty years ago, Bobby Scarboro still had his shop downtown with all those incredible old photos of Etowah County organized in 3-ring binders on his shelves. I dropped by many times to flip through them and couldnt get enough. Bobby told me he had acquired them as people would bring by photos to make copies of and he would make a negative and catalog a print. Thats how the Scarboro Collection now available through the Gadsden Public Library came into being, because of one persons interest in the history of his community. Welcome to Gadsden is finally becoming what I had always hoped it would be, a site where images from multiple contributors are shared. We are getting more and more photos from various sources as our group grows. Photos are surfacing from obscurity and stirring all of our memories. Welcome to Gadsden has become a delightful as well as educational experience with each passing day. I love seeing these old photos for the first time. A thanks to each of you who take the time to scan and share your images. A thanks to all for your reminiscence, your comments. Bobby once took a great deal of time and interest to collect and save pieces of our collective past. In like manner, thats what we are all doing here in our own little way, collecting and sharing pieces of our collective history with one another. I like what this group has become and looking forward to seeing more and more of our past through your lenses.
