A story about dieting: You’ve been feeling down for a while and you’ve decided enough is enough, time to lose weight. Your friend tells you about this great diet they found. They’ve been doing it for a while now and they’ve lost two kilos. So you decide to get the book and try the same diet. The book promises great results in a short period of time. “Wow, if it worked for the author it should work for me” you think. So you start the diet, you do everything it tells you to. After a while, you start to lose some weight, “all right”, you think,“ all of this is worth it, I’ve dropped a few pounds”. Soon after though, the weight loss starts to slow. You think to yourself “I haven’t lost as much this week, it must be my fault, I shouldn’t have had that cheat day, or what about the day I didn’t so it exactly as it told me”. So the next week you follow your guidelines to the letter. Same result. You’ve lost a bit of weight, but not as much as you’d hoped. You carry on strict as ever, doing exactly what the diet tells you to. Soon, the losses get less and eventually stop. “What’s wrong with me, why can’t I make this work?”, so you go back to your old way of eating while you look for a new diet. You put back on all of the weight you lost, plus a little more. Then you find this shiny new diet. “Wow! All I have to do is eat only green things on Mondays, Eliminate all carbs on Tuesdays and eat nothing at all on Fridays and I get to eat what I want for the rest of the week! And Chardonnay McCelebrity says it worked for her, so it must be good…...” and the cycle continues. Different diets, same results, weight loss to start with, which soon tapers off, then stops. You either blame yourself or the diet, then try to find a new one. Losing weight is a great thing to do (provided that you have weight to lose!), if you do it the right way it will make you feel good and reduce your risk of developing many diseases which are wreaking havoc on our society. But think about it, if diets really worked, why would there be a need for so many of them? If you search for “Diet Book” on amazon, you get 58,185 results. If any one of them truly produced lasting changes, why would there need to be any more? Wherever you are today, it undoubtedly took time to get there, wherever you want to be, it will take time to get there too. The sooner you get off the diet merry go round and on to a proven exercise plan which is designed for your needs, abilities and goals, and a healthy eating action plan that teaches you how to make the right food choices for the whole of your life, the sooner you can end the frustration you have been feeling and be all that you want to be, with all the added benefits that come with exercise and healthy food choices. I understand your frustration and I want you to succeed. I also know you can do it, you deserve to feel good about yourself, you just need the right plan and the right support.
