A teacher wrote to us something that I think we all need to read and think about. Here are my thoughts on opt out. Teachers claim to be doing everything they do for the children. What will happen to the children if they dont work 20 hours per day...blah blah blah. I have been told by other teachers that I need to stop sticking my neck out because nothing is going to change and I will only end up hurting myself. I get why teachers think that way. What I dont understand is how incredibly selfish, teachers who refuse to speak up, refuse to get involved, refuse to vote, want someone else to say things representative at faculty meetings while they hide behind someone can be. Just like school board members who said their jobs were threatened so they cant do anything about opting out, teachers are doing the same thing. If they REALLY cared, they would get involved and help stop this testing craziness. Pushing kids until they cry, vomit, or melt down is not doing anything for the children. Its being concerned only about a job. Everybodys out for themselves, no one wanting to jeopardize their job. Meanwhile, its like the Holocaust of education is happening before our eyes.
