A three minute video in French transmitted by MSF Japan showing a day at the MSF Ebola treatment centre in Conakry, Guinea. One of the MSF Belgium staff I have given English training to, Vincent Lambert, is shown dispensing prescriptions. MSF despite being a small player compared to giants like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) has 30 years experience treating Ebola and has handled half of the cases so far this year in western Africa. MSF is the leader to date in the fight against Ebola. Two-thirds who have come to the MSF Ebola treatment centres since March have been diagnosed with Ebola and a third of those have survived. The earlier the treatment, the better chance a person has. Otherwise healthy people also have a better chance of survival. Strict protocols have been in place so that when someone like Vincent returns to Belgium, no one is endangered. MSFs work directly with people in such dangerous contexts is another example of why I am grateful to be able to be of service in Brussels for MSF Belgium and why it is Kate and my preferred charity.
