A time to kill. When exactly would that be? For two little Jack - TopicsExpress

A time to kill. When exactly would that be? For two little Jack Russells who did NOT fail the highly controversial ‘temperament test’ that would have been when their owners where frantically trying to get them out of the RSPCA NSW – and were assured that they had time. Only they didn’t. On a weekend a Supervisor gave the nod to kill these two little dogs – and again Australia’s largest and best known body for all things animal hangs its head in shame. It declares it can and will do better. That it will learn from it’s mistakes. I say – not likely for one reason. There is no palpable effort to change. RSPCA Rutherford has been in trouble before. It killed Max a black lab cross – who came from a Rescue organization, adopted out and impounded. The Rescuers desperately tried to get Max back (you can view the frolicking lab on Justice For Max) but he failed the dreaded temperament test and was killed – despite having a family wanting him back. Another screw up. The Lost Dogs Home killed Brindle – a large crossbreed dog a few years back as the family tried desperately to get him out over the Christmas period – only to be told he was dead and gone – and oh, would you like another one instead? And my personal experience? Well one of the ex RWL dogs was surrendered to the RSPCA Vic without my knowledge. That is until his chip was traced to me. I received a message on my phone and rang back 10 minutes later only no one knew who I was talking about. Nor who the person was that called me. Really???? A day later I got a letter stating he was being held. I rang asap and was jumping in the car to head out to collect him – and you guessed it, he was dead – even before the phone call for crying out loud. It took me a long time to let go of the anger for the bigger picture – that is to work with the RSPCA people who were willing to move forward and save lives. Hello RSPCA Qld. And Hello RWL is part of the 700 odd animals who have gone to rescue this year alone from their initiative. During my speech at the Conference last week, I told everyone there I was going to invite Steve Coleman CEO RSPCA NSW out for lunch. Sit down and have a chat. Help him move forward with any help I could give. I am still determined, and I will pay my own airfares up to have lunch with Steve – and I hope meet some of his staff because I bet they don’t know what RWL does – and by God they need to. Like a rabbit in the headlights is Steve to me. And yes being terrier-esque (or is that Terrorist-esqu) Steve sadly will not be able to shake me free. I promise to play nice. You see this kind of absolute final and unalterable mix up has to stop. Today. Now. Forever. I don’t own this should be happening. I don’t care who stuffs up. When there is a family attempting to retrieve it’s dogs or cats and it doesn’t have the money to pay for fees – why are they being held to ransom? And the inability to pay is paid with an animal’s life. While we know that RSPCA are a charity and Council want their piece of the pie – just step back folks and have a think for a minute. You are holding an animal and you want payment. You complain you have too many animals. Let it go back to the owners for heaven’s sake. I mean it. Make it up in other ways, help these people with a payment plan. Get them to do some work around your campus – mow your lawn – anything! Stop being so bloody minded – and help those who are genuinely wanting their pets back, struggling to get them back – and have nice animals that deserve it. Who says that you have to make their lives miserable and kill their pets? Where did you take on THAT mantle as part of your five freedoms. We don’t ask you to forsake all payments. But we do ask you – what the HELL are you achieving? You don’t get payment. You kill an animal. You make a family bereft and angry. Council don’t get paid. So what the heck is it all about? Because it’s right???? Because that’s the process you have adopted? If it is – then you need to look at your protocols – your missions, your statements and your freedoms. You need to recite them daily so you don’t forget. Because you have forgotten. You have failed. You are now the enemy, the aggressor, the bad guy. Have a good look in the mirror and see if you like what you see. And if you don’t then bloody well change it. news.ninemsn.au/national/2013/09/19/09/11/rutherford-rspca-kills-familys-dogs
