A very nice account of my cousin’s tragically short life from page D4 of today’s Regina Leader-Post: CYDNEY ELIZABETH WEIR We, the family of Cydney, are heartbroken to announce her tragic passing last Sunday evening, May 18, 2014. Cyd was born at the Regina General Hospital on April 28, 1995. After four trips to the hospital, six days late, Cyd was always a dawdler but well worth the wait. She attended Lakeview Elementary School from K to 8, and graduated with honours from Sheldon- Williams Collegiate in 2013. Cydney started concert band in Grade 6, Sheldon-Williams Area Music Program (SWAMP) playing the clarinet for seven years. She was active in many school activities including volleyball, soccer, drum club, musicals, band and choir and particularly enjoyed the outdoor club and Trek School. Always willing to try something new, Cyd was among the first participants in the Campus Regina Public Health Sciences Program. Cyd was a life-long and third generation guider. Starting in Grade 2 working her way through Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders, Rangers, all the way to a full-fledged guide leader - sharing her love of camping and the outdoors - helping to manage the distribution of untold boxes of cookies! Cyd loved working with the young girls that passed through Guides #27 as well as enjoying so many wonderful friendships along the way. Cydney received the Chief Commissioners Gold Award - the top guiding award. Cyd was a born water baby; always at home in the water - first in and last out of the lake every year! She participated in water polo and with the Dolphin Swim Club and went on through all the swim levels to achieve her Water Safety Instructor, National Lifeguard designation and just recently completed the Life Saving Society Instructor - now able to teach all the higher levels of Life Saving Society awards. Cydney has worked for the last two years as a life guard/swim instructor with the City of Regina Aquatics. This past winter she also taught skating to pre-schoolers with the Community Association. Cyd enjoyed many summers surrounded by family at Last Mountain Lake and Emma Lake. Sharing lots of laughter, fun and games with friends and family at the cottage and other gatherings. Our dear Cyd is survived by her loving family, her parents, Susan and Don; her sister Makenna; and her beloved lab Woody; her dear grandparents, Phyllis and Ken Weir - Weir aunts and uncles Dave (Valerie), Dick (Lorelee), Bob (Kelly), Brian (Jenny) and Joan (Bryan) - Peachey aunts and uncles Kevin (Margaret), Bruce (Anne) and Jaynanne. Her favourite cousins Karea (Jeff, Jacob and Autumn), Kristian (Laura, Adam, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Julia and Elyse), Allison, Alexis, Sarah, Kelsie, Lindsay, Liam, Glenn (Jemma and Kieran), Neil, Erin, Rory (Tasha and Kaden), Dan (Shandel), Kyle (Donna), Michelle (Brendan), Jessalyn, Andy, James, Kate, John (Kristen, Brodie and Harrison) Kat and CaSandra; special aunts and uncles, Liz, Pat and Rob, Peter, Mary Lou, June, Len and Tia, and even more cousins on both sides of the family, and so many special friends and neighbours who loved Cyd so - they know who they are. You were our sunshine, not our only sunshine but you made us happy when skies were grey, we know you knew dear how much we loved you. . . Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cyd, may be made to the Regina Humane Society Inc.
