ACCESSING THE CANDIDATURE OF KANO GUBERBATORIAL ASPIRANTS By Adnan Mukhtar Adam Tudunwada They is no iota of doubt that Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of kano have served an exemplary life as governor of kano state, he is seen by some Nigerians as the most performing governor in the country, kwankwaso is being praised even by his enemies as a result of the tremendous achievment he made in kano, he will indeed left a legacy that he will be remembered of, this reminds me of the late revolutionary leader of Burkina Faso Thomas Sankara who said i want to be remembered as a person whose life have been helpful to humanity kwankwaso is indeed following the food steps of Sankara, I was overwhelmed when I heard that the president of Burkina Faso who served as the vice president of Sankara and later overthrown him resigned his position as president of the former upper Volta after series of protest against his long tenure as president of the country, The way kwankwaso is taking the affairs of kano is commendable and that is how a leader is expected to, to me governor kwankwaso has the ability, charisma and dogma to rule this country even better than Gen Buhari to some extent, his age is much younger than that of the General, a patriotic Nigerian like kwankwaso need a successor that can lead kano to an ultimate triumph. let us look at the kano gubernatorial aspirants critically and access them one after the other. in APC we have former governor of kano state and serving senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya who governed kano but has nothing to show, I heard that when he was the governor of the state the civil servants suffered a lot before getting their salaries and with the works on ground I dont think the man can continue with then if assume the mantle of leadership as kano state governor, the state need hardworking someone, Courageous and competent, does he possesses the aforementioned qualities? let us be frank to ourselves, we move to the deputy minority leader of the house of reps who is also contesting the number one seat in kano does he possesses the aforementioned qualities as said on Gaya, kawu is not eloquent therefore he cannot represent the people of kano anywhere in the world, his English is somehow therefore I disqualify him in the race as a card carrying member of the Apc and an adherent if the kwanwasiyya political ideology. Among all the contenders Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje a 67 year old man and the state deputy governor who served the country in many capacities is considered as the .most serious contender as he posesssed all the qualities of leadership, he has experience in government but he is facing a serious challenge from the kwankwasiyya leader as it is very difficult for him to support him as the governor stated in many occasions that they are leaving kano government house together with his deputy so that they can pave way for a young and vibrant person but the state deputy governor refuse to acknowledge that as he gone far in his campaign and is said to have the support of majority of kwankwasiyya commanders and some government officials, but I doubt if the iron leg politician will change his mind, among all the aspirants Ganduje is the most competent let us say the fact. But apart from these three aspirants the rest are contesting to make popularity or to be given contracts or appointments in government, I may recognise Usman Alhaji as a serious contender in the race but Mall am Ibrahim Khalil and Mall am Ibrahim Kankarofi and the rest may be considered as jokers and not serious contenders. in PDP we have Mallam Salihu Muhammad Sagir Takai who contested in 2011 under the platform of Anpp and was defeated by kwankwaso, Takai has the support of his political godfather Mallam Ibrahim. Shekarau but does he has the qualities of leadership? yes but he is too soft and indolence and that automatically disqualifies him, the second serious aspirant is Dr Akilu Indabawa who may be considered as a politician that has no grassroot and even if he will win the PDP primaries the party will fail every kano man knows this, the same thing to Muhammad Abacha who is serious but not loved by the people of kano, but for Comrade Hadi kawata, Engr Mansur Ahmad and Engr Bello Sani Gwarzo I may consider them as politicians without grassroot and cannot deliver kano. At last I pray that may Allah give us leaders that are patriotic, honest, hardworking, and committed, leaders that have their people at heart, leasers that will protect the interest and integrity of their people Adnan Tudunwada is of the Department of Islamic Studies Northwest University, kano and can be reached via adnanmukhtar3@gmail or 08033255741
