Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu-641003, Phone:91-422-6611251, Email: [email protected] Subject: Memorandum to Hon’ble Prime Minister of India & other dignitaries for giving direction to State Government of Tamil Nadu for consideration of demand of forestry students for giving weitage to forestry students for direct recruitment posts of forest Ranger Posts in Tamil Nadu- Indefinte hunger strike by 150 students on 7th day-regarding Hon’ble sir/madam, All India Agricultural Students Association(AIA SA) bring to your kind information that hundreds of students of Forest College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Mettupalayam are sitting on indefinite hunger strike since 22nd July, 2014 to press their demand for consideration of forestry degree for the post of Forest Range Officer (forest apprentice) as being practiced in several other states. It is stated that in 2010, the Government of Tamil Nadu assured 100 percent reservation for the post of forest Range Officer in the direct recruitment category and thereafter, Government of Tamil Nadu issued notification vide no. G.O. (MS) No. 118 dated 20th August, 2010. On that basis, Tamil Nadu Public service Commission had notified 80 posts for forest apprentice on which forestry students were selected based on the written exam and physical test but still result for that exam has not been announced even after a period of more than 3 years. Further, to a great disappointment for the forestry students, the government amended the recruitment rules of G.O. (MS) No. 118 dated 20th August, 2010 by carrying out amendment vide new G.O.(MS) No 76 dated 9th July, 2014 which allows only 25% reservation for the forestry graduates, whereas the 75% posts has been alloted to the graduates possessing other non related degrees such as physics, chemistry, engineering, computer science, statistics etc. As per information received from forestry college students, no direct recruitment for Forest Ranger Post has been made for last 20 years in the State of Tamil Nadu and the forestry students suffered a lot. During 2010, Forestry students went on state wide agitation for consideration of their demand that forestry degree holders should be consider for Forest Ranger Post against direct recruitment quota. Ms. Jayalalithaa, the then General Secretary, AIADMK and present Chief Minister fully supported their demand. The Government of Tamil Nadu issued Notification in 2010 and initiated recruitment during that year. But now after after a period of 4 years, the government amended the recruitment rules to the disadvanctage of forestry students which has cuased great disadvantage to them. The students of Forestry college in Tamil Nadu organized peaceful protest march on 21.07.2014 and initiated indefinite hunger strike to press their legitimate demands since 22nd July, 2014. Though the issues are not dealt and concerned by our Forest College and Research Institute(TNAU) but the administration of the college under the pressure of concerned government department declared Indefinite closure of the college. The striking students are continuing hunger strike inspite of the hardship created by Administration and stoppage of the essentials basic amenities such as toilet, canteen etc and they have been left open to jungle(forest). Keeping in view of the seriousness of issues faced by our AIASA members in Tamil Nadu and great disadvantage caused to them by State government by amending the rules , the association decided to support them. Hon’ble Prime Minister and other dignitaries of Government of India are requested to kindly intervene in the matter and issue direction to State government for consideration of legitimate demand of forestry students in the interest of their professional and career by restoring the original rules vide G.O (MS) No. 118 dated 20 August, 2010 and in the interest of justice. The State Government may also be requested to consider BSc Forestry students for recruitment of forest extension officers in forest department, National Bamboo Mission, IWMP projects and also in forest plantation corporations such as TANTEA, TAFCORN, Arasu rubber Corporation, TNPL and Tamil Nadu Forest Research Institute and similarly MSc(forestry) may also be considered for assistant conservator of Forest as being practiced in many States. Yours faithfully, Harish Kumar Vishwanath Sahrma Manjit M.Lad Chief Coordinator Secretary National President K.Ravi Kumar Mathew Baite Sumit Kr. Singh Secretary, ACC Sr.Coordinator Coordinator
