AN EYE WITNESS ACCOUNT OF PDP RALLY IN ISOKO SOUTH “Owariovo re b’ Oghene ruo ho, Jesu we h’ ovie” “Owariovo re b’ Oghene ruo ho, Jesu we h’ ovie” – Mrs Orezi Esievo aka Madam Overflow That was the song with which she moved the crowd to have faith in God who know’s no impossibility. But that was in the middle of the campaign. “ PolAd, where are you”? “ We are still at the Odio-Ologbo palace but we will soon through from here so let is meet at the entrance gate” Then, an occurrence which is rare this days among people of his class and political standing took place. While navigating through the mammoth crowd and huge traffic caused by the presence of Senator Okowa in town, I saw him. The Okada rode passed me but it couldn’t continue further due to human and vehicular traffic. There he was sitting on top of Okada like any ordinary citizen. No police escort, nothing. It was the greetings of the people “Chairmo, Chairmo” that made me to look side ways and behold, our own executive Chairman, Sir Malik was boarding an Okada passing through the midst of the people!( I must apologise for not capturing this moment in photo for you and posterity). Then once I found a safe place to park, I saw this (see attached photo one). I knew even if the so called equity promoters will never ever post this pix even if they saw 50of this type so I captured it for you so that when next you see someone posting a pix of a branded Toyota salon vehicle to depict a certain candidate as “backward”, you can be quick to establish bias. Then straight to the essence of the event. Pastor Powell was busy doing his thing (Oga Commissioner, na God bless you with this gift). Chief Askia Ogie, as Head of Security Committee was busy ensuring that the security was not breached. Then Chief Solomon Ogba was introduced who took charge from then and called on prominent party leaders (including Chief Mike Edegware and Chief Iduh) and the aspirants to the podium to either an appearance or a brief speech. Senator Stella Omu urged everyone to support to vote PDP enmasse. He specifically appealed to the electorates. Then Sen. James Manager greeted the people and also urged them to vote PDP enmasse. Leo Ogor told the people that what “we are doing here is prepareing the ukodo. You will have power to demand for what is due us according to how much we contribute to the success of the part. He therefore enjoined everyone present to vote PDP enmasse. Then Hon. Erijo appealed to the people to vote for all PDP candidates enmasse then he demonstrated by widening his legs that some people are doing one leg in PDP and the other in another party. He reminded everyone present of the dire consequences of such actions. Then Madam Overflow moved the crowd to have faith in God thru her song and also urged everyone to vote for PDP enmasse. Varios other speakers took and the Mic and they all spoke on the need to vote for only the PDP Besides, Senator Okowa’s speech which we barely heard due to the th the fact supporters out of excitement, the other high point of the occasion was when Bashorun Askia beckoned on Chief Iduh Amadhe and they openly hugged each other (see second attached photo) to the shame of the devil. Then came that Chief Iduh Amadhe’s speech where standing besides Hon Johnson Erijo (see third attached photo). Chief Iduh charge the electorates to vote for PDP enmasse and reminded that that you speak very little to the wise and they make sense out of it ( I suspect he said this for the benefit of those who were going to this his phone lines with calls immediately he left the podium). Hon. Erijo filled with excitement shook hands with High Chief Iduh and called him by his cheitaincy title Ugo 1. Then chants of “omovie” (son of a king) filled the air. Thn finally, the departure. Madam Overflow’s connection with the people could not have been better experience as she danced “Doro” to the admiration of the commoners-the voters. One particular guy I saw had his mouth almost opened in pleasant admiration of Madam Orezi apparently for seamlessly connecting with the people despite her enviable political and personal achievements. PERSONAL COMMENTARY I understand the excitement in the “party is supreme” camp. The tendency is to taunt the opponent with “I told you, we will teach you that politics is not about a sustained hate-filled facebook campaign”. I also understand the confusion and doubts in the so called equity camp hence the phone calls to their ex comrades to find out if they are still with them struggles. It will insult our education if we expected that the answers to such queries will be something else other than in the affirmative. I hereby appeal to both camps to let each other be and also let the leaders, whose position right now is not exactly an enviable one, be. Politics is all about interest. The fellow comrade with you yesterday is capable of rational thought to choose which path best serve HIS/HER INTEREST. JUST LET THEM BE PLEASE. Chief Askia and Chief Iduh reconciled and hugged each other publicly to the admiration of all well meaning peace loving Isoko people. There is no limit to such reconciliations. Enemies yesterday, friends today, a better and more crisis free Isoko.
