Frequently they are used in racehorses and performance horses to improve strength and try to improve athletic performance. There has been no scientific evidence to show that they actually improve performance such as make a horse runs faster but some trainers think that anabolic steroids will make a horse feel better and train better. Anabolic steroids are a double-edged sword. They are powerful long-lasting drug with potential serious side effects. Most common side effects are difficult to control or aggressive behavior, masculine behavior and appearance and impairment on fertility. Fillies and mares may show masculine behavior, temporarily stop reproductive cycling and have hard, small inactive ovaries. Males may have decreased testicular size, decreased sperm numbers and other adverse effects on reproductive performance.
