ANNOUNCEMENT: The Bureau of Transportation is preparing for basic pavement maintenance on SE 130th from SE Division to SE Lincoln, restriping options on SE 130th from SE Stark to SE Division, and two crossing improvements located at SE Stark and SE Division. In the course of project outreach and design, the Bureau is hosting an open house regarding the project. Potential project elements include: • Road repaving from SE Stark to SE Lincoln with required stormwater management facilities • Two options for restriping the street from SE Stark to SE Division to manage interactions and speeds of vehicles on the street • The installation of pedestrian and cyclist crossing improvements at SE Stark and SE Division with signal modifications and striped crosswalks. Project Details The road repaving will require stormwater management facilities adjacent to the street in the “furnishing zone” to manage stormwater run-off from the roadway. Installation of these facilities typically remove parking adjacent to the facility. The centerline on the street will also be removed to help lower speeds. The street has been requested by the Fire Bureau as a Major Emergency Response Route and because of this speed bumps to reduce speed are precluded as an option for the street so as not to impact response times of emergency vehicles. Options for restriping include placing “sharrows” in the roadway to position cyclists in the travel lane or adding striped bike lanes to move cyclists to the bike lane and out of the travel lane. Bike lanes would limit parking to one side of the street (the side without stormwater facilities) but would also limit interactions between bicycle and automobiles and also help to keep speeds close to the speed limit on the street. “Sharrows” would allow for more parking (on the side with stormwater facilities or school related parking restrictions) but would face a higher level of bicyle-automobile interaction and may create queuing delays for automobiles on the street. The crossing improvements will be focused on SE Division and SE Stark and include signal modifications, crosswalks on both sides of the street, and ADA compliant curb ramps. Date: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 Place: David Douglass High School – South Cafeteria 1001 SE 135th Avenue Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Project Contact For questions about the project please contact the project manager assigned to the project, Kyle Chisek at (503) 823-7041 or [email protected].
