ANON - Im just back from my 21 month olds first dentist - TopicsExpress

ANON - Im just back from my 21 month olds first dentist appointment. They are now recommending that once children turn 2 they get a fluoride gel put on their teeth at every appointment. I use a fluoride free toothpaste on his teeth and my gut telling me (and I plan to) not to get the gel put on his teeth. My only issue is, I know fluoride is good for teeth health but bad for your body so Im so stuck as to what to do! Do I ever use fluoride toothpaste on him (maybe use it once a week or something) or never and just hope he doesnt have horrible teeth when hes older? Ive heard the issue is with the swallowing more than anything so once hes old enough not to swallow the toothpaste is it save to use then and would it even make a difference to his teeth by that age? Or just stick with what Im doing so far and keep him completely fluoride free? My gut is telling me to do the latter but would be interested to see other peoples opinions.
