Scannews - Assembly Protests EFFC’s Detention of Edo Speaker, Majority Leader, Over Alleged Forgery Members of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) led House of Assembly yesterday protested the arrest and detention of their speaker, Hon Uyi Igbe, majority leader, Hon Phillip Shaibu and the chief whip, Hon Folly Ogedengbe by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over alleged forgery of the signature of Hon Razak Momoh who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. It would be recalled that the crisis among the state legislators deepened last Saturday when over 200 armed thugs invaded the official residence of the lawmakers located along Ihama road in Benin City and descended on APC lawmakers, their family members and properties. The attack was viewed by many as a reprisal to an earlier assault on PDP lawmaker, Hon Razak Momoh, a fortnight ago. Addressing journalists at the Legislative Quarters yesterday, the assembly’s chairman on Information, Hon Kabiru Adjoto, also raised alarm over the health conditions of the majority leader and speaker who were said to have sustained bullets wound, alleging that the duo were denied access to their doctors by officials of the anti- graft- agency. Adjoto told journalists that they were authoritatively informed that Igbe collapsed twice in EFCC’s dungeon because of his failing health condition and appealed to Nigerians to prevail on the agency to immediately release the lawmakers.
