ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SUNDAY - FEBRUARY 2ND After a mild Sunday, a cold front wil move through the area this evening. Low pressure developing in the Gulf states will move off the Virginia coastal waters on Monday. Precipitation will arrive between 4am and 6am early Monday morning. There will be a brief period of rain and sleet at the onset of precipitation, but this will transition to all snow around sunrise, except over southern NJ where rain will persist longer. This will be quick hitter. Snow, heavy at times will continue through the morning and end by around mid-afternoon. Snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected in central NJ (north of a line from Philly to Seaside and south of a line from Lambertvill to New Brunswick) including the Neptune area and the entire I-195 corridor 3 to 6 inches in northern NJ including NYC except 2 to 4 inches in northwest NJ. In southern NJ where there will be a longer period of rain, 3 to 6 inches in the interior and 1 to 3 inches along the coast near Atlantic City. Snow should arrive early enough to impact the morning rush hour, the more significant issue will be getting home in the afternoon. This will be a wet heavy snow versus the dry powder that defined our January storms. Forecast continues to trend colder for the next storm Tuesday night and Wednesday with northern NJ and interior central NJ likely seeing a significant snow and ice accumulation. More on this tomorrow. Forecast guidance continues to give strong indications of a widespread winter storm for next weekend.
