AS MEEK AS JESUS MEMORY VERSE: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect, Matthew 5:48 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Judg 17, Acts 21, Jer 30-31, Mark 16 What is does the word meek means? Meekness and humility are not the same but they are very similar. Humility is submitting to the will of God even when your do not feel like it. A classical example of this is forgiveness. When someone hurts you, you don’t feel like forgiving them but you forgive because God says so. Humility is also putting yourself in a lower position than you are for the will of God to be done. When you see the governor of a state or the CEO of a large cooperation working as an usher in the house of God, we say such governor or CEO is humble. When you see the wife of the rich and mighty or a big senator working as a sanctuary keeper in the house of the living God, we say such woman is humble. It is a good thing to be humble. James 4:6 says God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.Matthew 23:12 says those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Meekness is power under control. It is when a fellow refuses to use his power to his advantage either to defend himself or deal with his enemy. In Matthew 5:39-42 , Jesus was describing meekness when he said if anyone slaps you on the left cheek ,turn the right ; if anyone wants to sue you to take your undershirt , give him your coat too ; if anyone compels you to go a mile, go with him two miles. Someone once said meekness takes injuries like pills, not chewing, but swallowing them down. Meekness is overlooking or forgiving perceived insults or offenses for the will of God to be done . A meek brother commits his cause to God instead of needing to defend or justify himself. A meek sister commits her way to God and wait patiently from God. Not only that, she refrains from revenge and defensiveness. Meekness is the power to absorb adversity and criticism without lashing back for the will of God to be done. People can say all they like – blame, abuse, victimize, e.t.c but a meek fellow will never lash back. Matthew 5:48 says be ye therefore perfect, even as you Father which is in heaven is perfect. You should not measure your perfection by the perfection of any man of God or pastor. Your perfection should be to the level of God. Your meekness should not be to the level of a general overseer or superintendent or bishop or apostle but to the level of Jesus. The bible records that when the priest and elders took Jesus before Pilate and began to accuse him of things, he said nothing (Matthew 27:11-14). At a point Pilate literarily told him that this people want to kill you but I want to defend you, can you give something to use to defend you? For the will of God to be done, Jesus said nothing. To be meek like Jesus is to have the power to absorb adversity and criticism without lashing back for the will of God to be done. PRAYER POINT: Father please give me the spirit of meekness.
