Did you know that commercial fishing of Atlantic Striped Bass in New Jersey is prohibited? Well, under the proposed Draft Addendum IV, other states who are not harvesting or may be under-harvesting striped bass could TRANSFER THEIR QUOTAS OR A PORTION OF THEIR QUOTAS TO OTHER STATES! The public is encouraged to submit comments regarding this document at any time during the addendum process. The final date comments will be accepted is 5pm on September 30, 2014. You also need to read the entire document ( go to asmfc.org/files/PublicInput/StripedBassDraftAddendumIV_PublicComment.pdf ) and please support Option B which would reduce fish mortality to a level that is at or below the target within just one year. The proposed 25% reduction from the 2013 total harvest in one year would help to protect the spawning stock. This is truly important since, despite any reduction in harvest through all of the proposed scenarios, the spawning stock will still continue to decline reaching a low point in 2015-2016 before it begins an upward trajectory. A 25%, one year reduction should help to ensure the emergence of the strong 2011 year class fish that will be maturing into the spawning stock in 2016-2017!
