About A Boy... Today, I will make a trip with my Mother. Weve traveled together over the years many times. Holiday season trips to the City, trips to Florida, New York and Hawaii... even to Tuscany. All unforgettable journeys. I can think of thousands of places I would rather be going with her today - but I cannot think of another where I am needed most. Because on this day, I accompany my mom on a very different trip. For today, I am escorting her to a gathering of family and friends to pay final respects and lay to rest her first born son, my brother, Raymond J. Pinocci. Ray passed away on Easter Sunday this year, and tomorrow morning we will gather at the Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, California for the services. This is not about me, or my loss. For all practical purposes, I lost my brother decades earlier. He was 10 years older than me, a generation really, and even under normal circumstances it would of been challenging to remain close. But this is about a BOY. This is about a BOY that my parents once held in his arms, with all the hopes, dreams and love that Bill and I have held our own girls. This is about a BOY that theyd help steady as he took this first steps. This is about a BOY that they sent off to school. This is about a BOY that joined the Scouts, my dad as the master. This is about a BOY who became a BIG brother. Again. Again, and then again - until there were 5 of us. This is about a BOY that made his younger siblings laugh. About a boy, who sometimes made them scared, and made them cry. What BOY doesnt? This is about a BOY who LOVED to fish. This is about a BOY - a BRILLIANT boy, mind you - who took a different road than his parents had ever imagined. This is about a BOY who made some bad choices. This is about a BOY who broke the law. This is about a BOY who battled addiction most of his life. This is about a BOY that went to jail, that went to prison. This is about a BOY that became a Marine. This is about a BOY who abused his body. This is about a BOY who became ill. This is about a BOY who could not decide if he was a Niner fan or a Raider fan, so this BOY wore swag from both teams at the same time. This is about a BOY who was told he had little time left. This is about a BOY who worked hard to be better. This is about a BOY who was my parents son. This is about a BOY who was my big brother. This is about a BOY who was loved. ...I cannot say all that this BOY knew at the end, but I can say that his BOY knew he was loved. In memory of Raymond Jean Pinocci - 1953 - 2014
