About music: Music, to me, should be brilliant & illustrious. It should have an enigmatic quality, an intuitive feel to it. Sadly, most music is lame. It misses emotions, feelings, depth. Music for a film is the basis of a film; without it the film cannot stand. This is almost impossible to conceive. Kubrick used classical music for 2001: A Space Odyssee, in stead of an orchestral score (and is considered a genius for it), Bebe and Louis Barron made an entire electronic score for Forbidden Planet (the first of its kind), that has stood the test of time, though being very limited in sounds. For fun, watch this experimental movie of the 50s: Bells of Atlantis. Anais Nin recites a poem, Bebe manipulates her sounds and it is left to filmmaker Ian Hugo to make sense of it. Shame that the color went off.
