Advice for all: it is inevitable that elderly relatives will be admitted to hospital. I have learned over such a short time how so very wrong things can go. My Dad had appalling care in his last dying days and this has now encompassed my life on fighting for better care for patients. I have now been faced with another worrying and serious issue. My mum has just come out of a different hospital and was sent home with meds. She had been given a box of vials with instructions that they must be injected into a vein daily. When the District Nurse came yesterday, thankfully her vigilance saved my mum from being administered with this medication which clearly showed another patients name on the box - it was Heparin. Its only been 10 weeks since my Dad died, I am still traumatised by the bad care he received. I have been beside myself that my mum was admitted to hospital this week and now yet another blunder hits me full on in the face. I have utterly no words..... I am now waiting for an urgent call from the hospital concerned.
