“Aesthetically, Maidentrip is bewilderingly singular. Rarely do films, let alone documentaries, blend a truly epic woman vs. nature narrative with so close a perspective. Schlesinger’s footage is crisp and clean, giving the film a through line that plays as the narrative connective tissue. With animated title cards that ooze the same sense of charm and life as the film’s lead character, the directorial hand found on this film is kinetic and full of vitality. Then there is Dekker’s footage, which itself seems odd opposite Schlesinger’s, but it turns this narrative into something utterly real. Giving us a raw look into the danger found in this daunting journey, the beauty found within the locales to where she ventures and the uncompromising life our central focus exudes, these handheld sequences are often rocked-boat shaky, but each captured moment is life-affirming.”- Josh Brunsting, Spectrum Culture Maidentrip is now playing in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Denver, Missoula & Vancouver!
