Agreed. The federal DOT under the obama administration is about to put this country on the path to the 2nd great depression. There are millions of truck drivers who depend on $700-$1500 a week paychecks earned by running 3000+ miles per week. We are currently regulated by a 14 hour on duty rule. Problem is, this does not allow for construction backups, rush hour backups, wait times at shippers and recievers, or lengthy waits for breakdowns. This causes truckers to cheat on their log books to recover those wait times. Now, DOT wants to MANDATE all truckers to use computerized E-Logs to prevent that cheating. Thus, you will soon have truckers driving less hours and waiting more. Its safer you say? Maybe so but, in the end, what you will get is truckers pay reduced by 50-75% which, in turn, will cause a mass exodus of truck drivers seeking gainful employment in higher paying fields. This will drastically reduce the number of trucks on the road moving the goods America needs. As a result, prices of everything shippable will sky rocket collapsing the economy. Just a 20 year veteran of the trucking industries 2 cents worth.
