Alfie Nze, an author and theatre director, has been living in Italy since the nineties. He is working on a new theatre play, but the memory of a tragic event that took place in Nigeria when he was a teenager insinuates itself into every attempt to work on the new play. In 1987 toxic wastes from an Italian large ship contaminated the village of Koko, a village at the door of the great kingdom of Benin. His willingness to tell the tale turns into a pressing need, so it becomes inevitable for him to go back to Nigeria. But he initially failed to enter Koko and so he starts wandering in the kingdom of Benin, where he is stationed, and another story enfolds: the British sack of Benin at the turn of the 19th century. Other visions for a theatre play begin to present themselves: the two stories are intermingled; he discovers he cannot tell the story of koko without going back to its historical importance. Back from his trip, he begins the preparation of the new play …
